Primates
Kakamega Forest is one of the best places in Kenya to watch forest primates. Look for troops of Black-and-white Colobus with their long white tails, lively Red-tailed Monkeys and Blue Monkeys moving through the canopy. At night, bushbabies and pottos may be found by torchlight.
The rare De Brazza's monkey is associated with nearby Kisere Forest; ask your guide about the possibility of a visit.
Butterflies
With hundreds of species recorded, Kakamega is a paradise for butterfly lovers. Sunny clearings and riversides are the best places to see swallowtails, charaxes and many more.
Reptiles, amphibians & insects
The forest holds chameleons, frogs, snakes and a dazzling variety of insects. A guided night walk is the best way to meet them safely.
