The quickest route from Nairobi is a domestic flight to Kisumu. From Kisumu, continue by road north towards Kakamega and on to the southern section of the forest — a taxi can be arranged for the journey.
By road from Nairobi
Kakamega Forest is roughly 418 km north-west of Nairobi. Most drivers travel via Nakuru and then either Kisumu or Eldoret to Kakamega. Long-distance buses run regularly between Nairobi and Kakamega town.
From Kakamega town
The southern forest around Isecheno is reached via Shinyalu. Take a taxi, a motorbike taxi (boda boda) or a matatu towards Shinyalu, and continue to Isecheno Forest Station. We are located just outside the forest, within easy walking distance of the station.
